Day 3: Sihanoukville Otres
We woke up in the beautiful resort town of Sihanoukville Otres. All 14 girls slept in dorm room-style accommodations, which brought us closer together both literally and figuratively. We enjoyed a great breakfast outside with the sun shining brightly. This was an exciting day for us because our schedule was very relaxed, which helped us overcome our jet lag. Our hotel was across the street from the beach, no more than 100 feet away. We walked along the beach together to look around at the restaurants, while taking in the sights and sounds of our surroundings. Then we were allowed to do our own activities. Many people went on the bouncy water park in the ocean and had a great time. Some things that the water park included were a trampoline, rope swing, slide, and a thing you can jump on to catapult someone else into the ocean.
While some people were at the water park, other people were relaxing on the beach while listening to music, reading books, or talking to their friends. As we sat on the beach, many Cambodian people came by offering things such as fruit, pedicures, sunglasses, and massages. Next, we went to lunch at a local restaurant called Queenco, which had a mix of traditional Cambodian and Italian food. The view was ineffable.
On the way back to the hotel, some people walked back while others took tuk tuks. We checked out of our first hotel and moved to the Good Time Boutique Hotel which was only two doors down. The Good Time Boutique Hotel has nice, large, air conditioned rooms and a beautiful pool.
In the afternoon, people did many different things including sitting in the pool, hanging out in their rooms, or walking on the beach. We enjoyed playing card games and ordering fresh fruit smoothies by the pool to cool down. While walking around the city, we saw lots of stray dogs and cats, small stores, and tuk tuk drivers offering tourists a ride. Next, everyone got ready for dinner and we walked to the beach to take pictures at sunset.

For dinner, we went to a different hotel, Sahaa, where we ate curry, pineapple noodles, rice, and fresh fruit. In Michaela’s words, “the best part of every meal is the fruit that comes at the end.” Some of our favorite fruits that we have had are mangoes, pineapple, watermelon, and dragon fruit. After an early dinner, we returned to our hotels where some people went for a night swim while others had an early night of sleep.
